Crime Science (Graduate) Crim 7381

This graduate level course examines recent evidence based policing practices to reduce crime. A major component of the course is reviewing the evidence around hot spots policing, but the course also covers chronic offender and focused deterrence policing strategies, the use of technology in policing (e.g. CCTV, license plate readers, body worn cameras), and predictive policing strategies. It will also address ethical questions, such as the potential for predictive policing to exacerbate disproportionate minority contact, and privacy concerns over the collection of information.
